Significant increase in user interface jank, for the same tab workload |
||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 73.0.3669.0 OS: ChromeOS 11578.0.0 (Official Build) dev-channel fizz What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Allowed ChromeOS to update to this version. Now using it. :) My device has only 4GB of RAM, and I have ten windows open, with chrome://discards listing 60 "tabs". I appreciate this sounds like a heavy workload for a 4GB device, but this worked fine for me, thanks to tab discarding, but this workload was fine with the previous ChromeOS version. What is the expected result? Expect that while I'm just working with one or two tabs, things are responsive. What happens instead? System keeps janking even for relatively simple interactions.

Pingy; jank regressed very noticably on Jan 17th on (relatively) low-memory ChromeOS.

Hi, does the jank go away if you close tab/windows? Also, do you know what version you were on before? Have you filed any feedback reports?

Re #4: Just filed a feedback and mentioned this bug #, and your user-Id, in it. If I use chrome://discards to discard various tabs then the jank goes away for a while, but eventually returns; it's as though we're discarding/freezing tabs too-late now, or letting them GC too aggressively, or something. Not sure which version I was on before this, but I'd guess that it was whatever the prior ChromeOS dev-channel release was. |
