Issue description
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_14_2) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/71.0.3578.98 Safari/537.36
Example URL:
Need an active Cisco Meeting Server installation
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. In Chrome 73 Canary, open Cisco Meeting App.
2. Try to connect to a videoconference.
3. CMA 2.4.2: Joining Meeting Failed message appears at the top of the screen. See attached picture.
CMA 2.2.x doesn't return an error message. The "Connecting" message stays on the screen endlessly until ending the conference is exited or ended.
What is the expected behavior?
Connection into the meeting occurs normally.
What went wrong?
See this picture from CMA 2.4.2
Did this work before? Yes Version 72 Beta, updated today 1/16/2019
Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? HTML5
Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Looks like Cisco did not get the note about the transition to Unified Plan which was put forward by them in 2013. You might be able to revert to the previous behaviour with enterprise policies for setting chrome://flags/#webrtc-unified-plan-by-default to 'disabled'. It would help to have a chrome://webrtc-internals dump (open before CMA, then join in CMA) in order to see the exact SDP and not just the error message.

The JavaScript logs (the deprecation warning and the exception thrown) from your screenshot shows what's going on. Cisco Meeting App is using SDP that is incompatible with the standards-compliant SDP format "Unified Plan" which is about to ship. You are seeing this in M72 Beta version because Unified Plan is being shipped through an experiment is 50% enabled in Beta. You can control whether this behavior is enabled or disabled in chrome://flags if you don't want to do a coin flip based on experiment. Safari is also about to make Unified Plan the default in their next version. The link from the deprecation warning has more info (https://webrtc.org/web-apis/chrome/unified-plan/), see the transition guide linked from it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-ZfikoUtoJa9k-GZG1daN0BU3IjIanQ_JSscHxQesvU/edit?usp=sharing. A quick-fix for Cisco Meeting App is to explicitly pass sdpSemantics:'plan-b' in the RTCPeerConnection constructor, this will make it generate and expect the old non-compliant SDP format "Plan B". This is not a Chrome bug, but reliance on legacy behavior, but I'm keeping this bug open to keep an eye on the Cisco Meeting App. There should be a bug filed on Cisco.

As per comment#3 and comment#5, it seems like the issue is already being worked on hence removing the Needs-Bisect label. Note: ===== Tried testing the issue, when tried to download the Cisco Meeting App it asked for registration. When tried to register with company email and company details it is showing an error as "Your company and email domain do not match our records. Please verify." Thanks.!

I will be glad to do a screen share so you can see the error happen on v72 but not on V72 or earlier, and to bring up items in developer mode that will be useful to you. Please note that we already are using the CMA fixup extension, loaded unpacked through developer mode. Without that, the video and audio in Chrome 71 and later does not work.

... and later does not work with CMA 2.2.x. This error comes up in CMA 2.4.2 and Chrome 73 both with or without the extension installed.

Thank you for the report. We've notified a number of contacts in Cisco, but not received any feedback so far.

huib: so the webrtc position is to roll out despite breaking apps from a vendor the size of Cisco?
,

The right team in Cisco is aware now. Stats and testing indicate very little breakage.

barry.burr: the attached version of content.js *might* fix the issue. It depends a bit on how CMA does things. huib: "trust us" when you have such a long record of breaking things... |
