PWA: On macOS, uninstalling an app doesn't delete it from launchpad / dock

Project Member Reported by mgiuca@chromium.org, Jan 4

Issue description

Version: Chrome Canary 73
OS: macOS

From a report internally on b/122315786.

Report: "Uninstall from the dropdown menu or from chrome://apps does not remove the icon from launchpad or dock. When I click them again, I think they were treated as a link and opened by chrome(not chrome canary)"

I haven't personally confirmed. Have we seen this previously?

Uninstall from Chrome Apps correctly removes the entry from Launchpad for me.

In general, I don't think uninstalling Mac apps (i.e. drag them into the Trash) automatically removes them from the Dock.
Sorry, by "Chrome APps" I meant "chrome://apps"

Dock icons are generally not removed when an app is uninstalled or removed from the dock -- you get a "question mark icon" (see attached).

> Uninstall ... does not remove the icon from ... launchpad.

Launchpad indexes the filesystem for apps. It can be a second-or-two-late. But in the bug reporter's case, let's combine this with the next comment

> When I click them again, I think they were treated as a link and opened by chrome(not chrome canary)"

Most likely explanation: user deleted the Chrome Canary version of the application, but the Chrome version of the application remained installed. Launchpad found the Chrome version and launched it.

Marking WontFix.
