Emacs crashes due to failed assertion at sommelier-display.c:26

Issue description

Chrome version: (copy from chrome://version)
Google Chrome	70.0.3538.110 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision	ca97ba107095b2a88cf04f9135463301e685cbb0-refs/branch-heads/3538@{#1094}
Platform	11021.81.0 (Official Build) stable-channel eve
Firmware Version	Google_Eve.9584.160.0

cros-termina - Version: 11021.10.0
Status - Up-to-date


OS: Chrome

Repro steps:
1. Run emacs as: sommelier -X --scale=0.5 emacsclient -a '' -c
2. Crash seems to happen when plugging or unplugging external display (via USB-C dock).

Expected: Emacs keeps running 
Actual: Sometimes (not always):
Emacs crashes with
