Javascript popups abrutly closing for legit sites.

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_14_0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/71.0.3578.98 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Go to a site like Quora.com
2. Click on links from answers 
3. new tab opens and closes with no other response

What is the expected behavior?
Open the new tab for this site

What went wrong?
I should not need to white label all my sites to use href links

Did this work before? N/A 

Chrome version: 71.0.3578.98  Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.14.0
Flash Version: 

They appear to be using javascript to render the link like this....

Unable to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 71.0.3578.98 using Mac 10.14.0. Attaching screen-cast for reference.
Steps: 
-----
1. Launched reported chrome 
2. Opened Quora.com
3. Opened answers and answers tab and clicked on links 
As we have observed that the new tab opens for this site

@Reporter: Request you to retry this issue with fresh profile without any extensions & apps or reset all the flags and let us know if issue still persists.

try this one https://www.quora.com/What-are-today-s-young-entrepreneurs-doing-wrong

look for  Lean isn’t a guarantee.[1]  LINK and click it.

As per comment#3, retried the issue on reported chrome version 71.0.3578.98 using Mac 10.14.0. Attaching screencast for reference.
Steps: 
-----
1. Launched reported chrome 
2. Opened https://www.quora.com/What-are-today-s-young-entrepreneurs-doing-wrong and navigated to link > Lean isn’t a guarantee.[1] 
3. Clicked on link  
As we have observed that the new tab opens for this site

It's no longer doing it. Not sure why but no extra plugins were installed other than adblock plus.
