Reported by mod98...@gmail.com, Dec 26

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/72.0.3626.28 Chrome/72.0.3626.28 Safari/537.36

2.
3.

Hi! I don't think this is a security issue, so derestricting. I'm not sure what's going on here, but I'm adding some "clear browsing data" people to see if they know what's happening.
I don't know if the clear browsing data is the only issue, because I'm not
a programmer. There could be other issues that I'm not aware of, but at
this time I will refuse to use Chromium until the problems are fixed.

Could you describe how Clear Browsing Data is not working correctly?

What are you doing? What do you expect to happen? What happens instead?

I guess the API keys message is shown as console output? This should not be related to Clear Browsing Data and just means that your build of Chromium did not include some api keys that are necessary for a few features like sync.
The Clear Browsing Data box opens, but when I click on the Clear Data
button the little circular arrow just runs, and runs, and runs. The cancel
button won't work, so I end up having to close the window to stop it. It
will set there, and run until I close the window. It doesn't matter if it
runs, for minutes, or hours. It's been running for at least 5 minutes now,
and won't stop. I just had to close the window to stop it from running.
I've never had a problem, until this latest build.

Which types of data are you trying to delete? If you selected multiple, could you try to delete them one by one to see which one causes this issue?
I just tried Chrome Beta 72.0.3626.28 on debian and couldn't reproduce it.
Browsing history, cached images, and files, autofill form data, and hosted
app data are the ones I'm trying to clear. I'm not using Chrome, this is
happening on Chromium.

I agree that the API keys are likely unrelated. Sync should be the only system used by CBD that requires them, and if you don't have them, you won't be able to enable Sync in the first place.

mod98ban@, per #6, please try to see if this happens with any *single* checkbox checked, so we can narrow down the investigation of where the deletion is failing.
Browsing history by itself-runs non-stop until I close the window.
Cached images and files by itself-runs non-stop until I close the window.
Autofill form data by itself-runs non-stop until I close the window.
Hosted app data-runs non-stop until I close the window.
I ran each one of them independently one at a time for at least 5 minutes,
and the little blue circle won't stop spinning. I don't know if anything
is working, or not.

Thank you!

Did you try them in that particular order?

It's possible that there's an issue with history deletion never returning a callback. If you close the dialog, reopen it, and trigger another deletion, we may still be waiting for the lost callback from the former, before executing the latter.

Can I also ask you to try closing Chrome between trying the history checkbox and the cache checkbox? And by close, I mean the three dots menu in the top right corner and "Exit" for a proper shutdown.

Another question: Are you signed in to a Google account? Did you try to enable Sync (it should not be possible without API keys, but I want to know if you may be in some strange state).
I am signed into gmail. I haven't tried to run things as you wish. I
guess my whole point in this deal is, I've tried everything up to this
point as I've been instructed, and nothing works. I don't have the time to
keep trying things for you. I just want stuff to work like it should. I
don't know why it's not working, or who did what to make it fail, but I'm
getting real discouraged by what is happening.

Somebody needs to fix the issue with the keys missing, and somebody needs
to fix the clear browsing data issue. It's that simple. Just put them
back to the way they were in the last build. I'm done here, because
nothing is being done. I guess I'll have to start running Firefox.
Your Chromium build is not an official build from Google. The issue with missing api keys needs to be fixed by Ubuntu.

We are looking into this data deletion issue but I couldn't reproduce it, so this is a bit difficult. Thanks for your help!

This issue has nothing much to be tested and confirmed by the TE team. Hence Adding 'TE-NeedsTriageHelp' label to remove this issue from TE bucket list and requesting Dev to look into the issue and help further.

Thanks..

If I restart computer, open computer, and open Chromium, then clean
browsing data will work the first time. After that, it will not. I tried
something new. I installed Super History, and Cache Cleaner. It will work
after the computer has been restarted once, but won't after that. It does
the same thing as the Chromium data cleaner.

Summary: Clear Browsing Data doesn't finish (was: Google API keys are missing.)
The api key issue can't be solved by us but I will try to figure out if there is something that causes CBD not to finish
