How do I pack extensions through command line interface in Linux?

Reported by ni...@mobicip.com, Dec 26

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.77 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Terminal
2. Type 'google-chrome --pack-extension=[location] --pack-extension-key=[key location if any, or skip]'
3. Press Enter

What is the expected behavior?
It should generate a crx file for the extension with the help of the key file (if any).

What went wrong?
Nothing happens after pressing Enter. No output files seems to be generated.
I want to automate the extension packing and would like to use the command line to do that.
Please help.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 70.0.3538.77 Channel: stable

Hi! Thanks for looking into it. Yes I am pointing out the same issue.
I am even attaching the screenshot of the command that I tried.

Also, I even found a question in stack overflow of some other person facing the same issue. But, the solution they gave did not really help me.

Even if I type 'google-chrome -h' to look at the available options, the pack extension doesnt come up.

Here is the link to the stack overflow one for reference -

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5075022/why-cant-i-create-a-google-chrome-extension-from-the-cli

We provide custom extension for schools and colleges and this would really help us a lot in automation.

Thanks

Also, a few places mention some scripts available for extension packing, but I couldnt find them anywhere in the chrome documentation. Probably they have been removed.
(Ref Link - https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/hosting#scripts )

If the command line tool doesn't work, can you please help with the scripts that might work?

Thanks

Hi,

I never heard back from anyone.
Any updates on this?

As the issue seems to be out of scope for us to triage it from our end, hence adding label "TE-NeedsTriageHelp" and requesting someone from "Platform>Extensions" team to have a look into this and help in further triaging it.

Thanks!
