Project Member Reported by haowen@google.com, Dec 20

Unable to reproduce the issue on chrome reported version# 71.0.3578.98 using Windows-10. Able to see the search results in default google search engine.

haowen@ Could you please let us know if the reporters are seeing the issue in Incognito mode or in new user profile as well. Not sure but could be due to some 3rd party extensions.

Adding proper component and requesting trieb@ for help in investigating this further.

Thanks!

Sorry, I know very little about this. First guess would be some kind of malware that changes the default search engine?
Adding some components/search_engines owners who might know more.
They probably have some extension installed. Can we ask the user to examine chrome://settings/searchEngines page and make a screenshot of it?

Moving into omnibox triage queue, to make sure this isn't forgotten about.

Asking a user for a screenshot would be nice.

Some data (e.g., histograms) comes with these feedback reports. I'm not sure what of it would help. I checked the default search provider histogram and it (correctly) recognizes that the default search provider is associated with the Google domain. We already knew that.

We're not able to contact users for screenshots. We'll check if there's anything mention in current reports.

orinj: Would this be related to the recent changes in the international search providers at all?

If not, just unassign yourself.

I agree we should get a list of their extensions / search engines.

No, the changes to search providers haven't launched yet - that will be M73.

I can try to help out with this bug if we get more data, but I don't think I'm ready to own it yet. Leaving open for a search_engines owner (or security expert) for now.

+1 to the idea that we need more input & clues for how to repro. The listnr.* links do have an extensions_sanitized list under the Product Specific Data section... and some of those extensions do look suspicious. So my initial assessment is in agreement with vasilii@ and treib@ -- looks like third party code doing something interesting.
