Either would work though creating the seccomp policy file would be better since there won't be a need to revisit this package in future.

Are there any special steps for getting an arm64 image or can i just use BOARD=kevin64?

Just using kevin64 board should be fine. If you have a kevin around, you should be able to flash the image as well.
