Tab Muting not working

Reported by xmet...@gmail.com, Dec 7

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/71.0.3578.80 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. open any site with an audio stream
2. click on speaker icon on tab
3. rip hair out

What is the expected behavior?
Mute the site currently loaded in that tab

What went wrong?
Nothing happened. Now you have to right click and choose mute site. which also happens to mute other tabs that are on the same site. It's a severe problem!

Did this work before? Yes Previous to this one.

Chrome version: 71.0.3578.80 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

I believe this is a purposeful change which needs to be undone. It's absolutely backwards thinking to have to right click and choose from a menu option to mute. There is no long per tab muting. It's been replaced with per site muting which if you think about it... is just retarded on all levels. Guess the devs never wanted to have multiple twitch streamers open and use the tabs to control audio muting vs players on each page. Ridiculous!

I am not sure if we ever had that feature where we can mute the tab by clicking on speaker icon on Chrome tab atleast I don't see that on M70 as well.

Please correct me if I am missing something here.
It was enabled in chrome://flags/#enable-tab-audio-muting but the feature has been removed since ver. 71.
like comment 3 said, it was enabled via flag.

How it worked is EXACTLY how anyone would immediately assume it works. You see the speaker icon, you can click to toggle mute/unmute. It would toggle mute for the specific tab, and only that tab. It wouldn't mute all tabs matching the hostname (which is retarded and I have no idea why anyone would want this). It makes having multiple livestreams open easier to manage the audio rather than having to go to random player controls on each page to manage the muting of each page.

Please dear god bring it back! Anyone who thinks right click, mute site, is a better alternative please explain ANY use cases where that makes sense (ad related stuff doesnt count).
Using the speaker icon to mute tabs is a widely used and critical feature. Please restore #enable-tab-audio-muting flag. Replacing tab muting with site muting with no UI toggle is going to drive people away. This means that #sound-content-setting needs to be retained also. There's a reason why this feature exists in other browsers by default. This issue has been reported with anguish in several forums since v71 update.
I'd gladly take site muting as a shift-click on the icon. Perhaps you can bring back #enable-tab-audio-muting and its default behavior and add a modifier shift + click to fire off the stupid new site mute. It would seem like the most ideal way of utilizing the single ui element and enabling the best of both worlds.

Switched to firefox on the desktop until it's returned, this kind of anti-user behaviour is the same thing the pushed me to opera on my phone when text reflow was removed.
How is this 'unconfirmed'? It's pretty obvious. Also, why Google would decide to switch from tab muting to site muting is completely beyond me. Everybody wants tab muting as the default option. Whoever decided to go the site muting direction is obviously completely out of touch with the users.
Out of touch with most logical common sense type of users. Perhaps there are slews of idiots who have no idea how to do things properly and instead of putting an adblocker their system to prevent their favorite autoplaying ad infested garbage sites from blasting them with audio for each new tab they open they enjoy the mute site functionality. No reason to ever hear ads from an entire site right? Screw Adblocker just remove tab muting and make it SITE muting. YAY! I mean I'd honestly like to know the name of the people involved in this retarded decision. I'd love for them to justify what use cases they had to support their decision to go against the grain. I'm all for site muting. Its a great feature for those EXTREMELY specific use cases. But I'm not down for replacing an even greater feature used by the masses. Like I said. It should be a shift/alt/ctrl click to do site muting, and normal click to toggle tab muting.
