Several flags that made the new disgusting UI go away in favor of the old one are now gone in v71.

Reported by bho...@gmail.com, Dec 6

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.110 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Chrome 71 took out these flags. this is wrong and very fascistic. put them back. i will not upgrade to 71 and will find a new browser if these flags stay gone.

Omnibox UI Hide Steady-State URL Scheme and Trivial Subdomains - DISABLE

Enable Ephemeral Flash Permissions - ENABLE
#enable-ephemeral-flash-permission

Thanks for filing the issue!

As the issue seems to be similar to that of Issue 911820 , hence duplicating into it. Please feel free to undupe if not the case.
Yes! The new UI is awful. It looks like firefox. Please give us back the option to change UI as before!!!
OS: even macOS and Linux is impacted by this terrible UI, not just a Windows
I see this too. I don't understand why Google would remove these options, why deliberately irritate users ?
Currently looking for either older Chrome versions or taking a serious interest in Firefox. This after the Gmail BS is kind of the last straw.
I hate the change! Please readd the flag.
Looks like I'm downloading an old version and disabling updates from now on.
I'm about to do away with Chrome as well because of this unwelcome and VERY FORCED change. Google is quickly becoming more and more user-hostile every day.
I too am in favor of getting the option back to customize the UI the way we like.
I don't like the new Chrome UI, especially the look of tabs. They are huge and round, like they are designed for children. At least give back the option of choosing the old tab design, or add the option of styling them.
Came here because the new tab UI hurts my eyes (dyslexia) and takes up additional space. Please bring back the UI Layout Normal Flag.
chrome71 UI is very bad!!!!
why NEVER "newer is better"?
we want old inferface back. thanks!
very bad new UI, seriously
UI is officially shit now, just let us have an option to get rid of it.
The UI is VERY terrible. Please give me a option to change it to old UI.
I hate the new tabs - all the background tabs merge together into one, such bad design.

Bring back the option to have the original tabs.

And get rid of your UX guy - he sucks.
NEW UI IS BAD!!!
I can't know which tab is active.
please make it easy to know, or just let me choose which UI I want!
The new UI is not good. Please give the "Normal" layout option as before.

Thanks,
Jacob
Please restore the option to revert back the old UI!
Please make it possible to restore the old UI, it's really hard to read all those tabs and they grey-on-grey
Google need to hire a better UI/UX designer. First youtube, now this.

Instead of supporting themeing, they're removing good enough design. If active tab blends in with non-active tabs then what's the point of having them.
The new UI looks terrible! Please let us have the option to revert it back to old style.
If you enjoy this new UI - great, im happy for you.
Everyone has their own taste.

BUT BOI, IT LOOKS SO AWFUL MY EYES HURT.
Just give us tools to return the old UI.
I will add i do dislike the new ui change for its much more clunky and space taking appearance, but also ebcausei am visually impaired and legally blind, like the last onei could 'see' good enough, how there is barely any between them, besides a small line.

If atleast they add a differant indentation, similar to the card style it might be better. and a minor fix to this issue
Chrome 71 looks terrible. I don't understand why you had to remove the normal looking UI and replace it with this Android s**t.
New UI is plain ugly, I know its for touchscreens and stuff but lord have mercy, bring back the "Normal" flag please.
I agree, I'd like the old design. Bring the option back please.
This new UI is unbelievably ugly and irritating. If the option to customize back to the old design isn't reinstated I'm simply going to uninstall Chrome and use another browser.
Please allow us to configure the tabs back to version 68 style, as was present in version 70 through UI Layout for the browser's top chrome

I would like to join in with the bashing of this change.

New UI sucks.
Bring "Normal" flag back.

Please and thank you.
Yes, the new UI is so bad. Terrible boxy design. Active and inactive tabs flush together well which makes it hard on the eyes.
The new UI is terrible. Google has been a big advocate of "Material Design", and then flattens all of the non-focused tabs into a single flat strip with barely visible separation. Chrome's UI has moved in the exact opposite direction of Google's design language. Forget adding an option to allow the old UI -- just bring back the old UI by default.
New ui is just disgusting, iwant the old one back.
For my taste the old UI was more clear and in fact compact! Pls by any chance bring the flag back.

Thanks!
New Ui is Awful, please bring back the option to change it back to the old one.
This UI sucks, 1st it look like shit but sure you could say that it is subjective but my second argument is that it waste more screen space and also the search bar ignore my gtk theme which is just painful to have a flashing white spot

anyway reverted back to the previous version, hope you restore the previous ui in flags otherwise i'm changing my web browser
Looks like Google hire disabled idiots or somthing like...

Horrible design! And preventing us from turning it of is unacceptable.
Please, can you put normal UI back. This bubbles UI is sickening. whatever you're trying to do with the rounded corners, it ain't pleasing to the eye. look at Microsoft's new office icons. Depth design is actually good.
The only thing that's REALLY bothering me is the 20 extra pixels on the TABS height. Why do something like this? IT TAKES UP SPACE and is really bothering me.!
The new UI looks like sh*t. I would like to tell apart my tabs and what the f*ck are the rounded corners about? Is it so that the corners don't cut us or something? The design looks like a cheap childish piece of trash. Stop with the facist dictator bs and at least give us the opportunity to go back if we want to. Why would you even disable us choosing the UI we want. What kind of pleasure do you take from making us use the design that YOU desire. Do you know what we want better than us Google?
Horrible design! And preventing us from turning it of is unacceptable.
Yes please bring back the option to go back to the old tabs. These are too big, blend together, and to top it all off they ruin some themes (although that's the least of problems). I don't want to go back to the previous version cause that would mean dealing with the refreshing desk icons again. But please, no one likes these tabs! Why do you want to look like Firefox? (worse cause on FF you can tell a tab from another better)

Also, until Flash is done for good (and that won't happen until 2020), let US decide if we want to keep it enabled on some sites. Bring back the #enable-ephemeral-flash-permissions flag so we can disable it. :/

And...WHY would you take away the option to mute tabs by clicking on the audio icon? Why are you getting worse? O_o
Please allow us to configure the tabs back to version 68 style, as was present in version 70 through UI Layout for the browser's top chrome under "normal".
Agree with all comments above--the new UI update makes it very difficult to use Chrome for anyone with any kind of visual impairment. Please bring back the old "normal" UI option.
The flag "Touchable Refresh" at least makes the UI larger. It 's still in the new format, but the font is larger.
Please revert back this change as new UI looks plain ugly. Also that flag has has 5 options and all of them are the same. Having 5 different options, at least make them 5 different ones.
Please let us chose the look of the UI. The new UI in chrome 71 is awful. I want the old one back or I'm not using this browser any more. Will move to FF
Agreed, need the old style tabs and COLORING back. It is all too white!
new UI looks like its meant for touch devices. Well surprise! I do NOT use (or have) touch support on my computer! Bring back space efficient easy to read UI please
I need NORMAL back for

#top-chrome-md
UI Layout for the browser's top chrome -

I considered to force the new UI without option for the old UI is a CRITICAL BUG, by this BUG I'm forced to downgrade Chrome, please fix that because if the old UI dissapear I'll change to firefox.

Can confirm very serious bug, new UI causing eye strain and nausea.
Can confirm bug. New tab UI makes tabs harder to tell apart, damaging usability. I am a professional web developer and until now have worked primarily on Chrome. Unfortunately, due to the abandonment of Chrome's excellent, signature tab design and the clear readability it provided in favor of this ugly mess, I will be reverting back to Firefox from now on. In the interest of consistency, I'll have to switch back to Firefox on my phone as well. Pity.
There are people who still use desktops and laptops without touch screens on purpose. Look, I get it, most people only use phones and don't know what a computer is anymore. But are you developers developing exclusively on a phone too? If so, disregard this post. Otherwise, you know how bad this new UI is, so ask yourself this question: Why remove the old UI option in v71?
Chiming in to confirm that the v71 "update" was a downgrade to usability.
Terrible change. Makes me sad to be a Googler. :(
We are at over 60 comments - how do we reopen this bug? The triage guy tied this to a duplicate issue. We need a fresh bug ID or to re-open this. They tried to say the only way to get the better tabs back was to go into some legacy mode or some such - but thats not the only way to fix this horror-show.
Please for the love of GOD add an option back to settings to let us use the old UI. This is horrendous. It shows us even LESS INFORMATION! What's the freaking point???
looks like that Chrome is trying to be the New IE in its shit way?
