[Ephemeral Tab] Resolve interactions with the Bottom Bar |
|||
Issue descriptionBottom Bar (BB) interactions are a source of user confusion, and we should get UX advice/approval before launching an Ephemeral Tab (ET) experiment on Stable or Beta. The latest version causes the BB to be obscured by the ET (when the user triggers it via "Sneak peek" in the context menu). Users need to close the ET, either with the close box or by switching tabs, before they can access BB functionality. However switching tabs is usually done with the BB... so this interrupts normal UI flow. I'm thinking this should not block a Dev experiment since it will let many of us start getting a feel for this issue. Open to advice on this. Assigning to myself for now.

I certainly think we can do that. I'm wondering whether we should skip the "try by flipping the flag" and go straight to enabling on Dev/Canary. I'd be interested in other opinions on this.

I think the current behavior is good enough to enable on Dev, so I plan to enable via Finch today or tomorrow unless there are objections. Jinsuk still has not landed his CL that causes the issue described in #0 about the Bottom Bar being obscured by the Ephemeral Tab (CL https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/1359992), which means the interaction problems are more visual (lack of smooth animation) than functional.

Landing now!

I think having the back button dismiss the ET even when peeking will help with this. Issue 914510 filed for that. |
