|||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 71.0.3578.80 OS Version: Windows 10, Misc. Linux Hey all, We're seeing a number of user reports that after updating to Chrome M71, they are no longer able to sign into the Hangouts extension. Users have shared that relaunching Chrome, signing inout of Chrome, and reinstalling the extension do not solve the issue. I'm unable to reproduce. Able to reproduce the issue with latest Chrome Stable channel i.e., 71.0.3578.80 on my windows machine, currently working on bisect to see which Cl range caused this regression.

crbug.com doesn't allow me to change the priority or add other OS platforms for some reason.

+ kbleicher@ (Chrome OS M71 TPM) as we're unable edit OS label, this bug is applicable to Chrome OS as well.

I can't repro this (on ToT at least). There's not much chance it's related to issue 903816 .

Per chat with raymes@ and pbommana@, we won't consider this as M71 stable blocker for now as we don't have reliable repro steps. Leaving "RBS" label for tracking purpose. pbommana@/craigtumblison@, pls continue to monitor this and let us know if we see any spike in user reports.

Tried testing the issue on Windows 10, Mac OS 10.13.6 and Ubuntu 17.10 on the latest Stable 71.0.3578.80 and unable to reproduce the issue by following the below steps. Tried to reproduce the issue ~7 times, but couldn't observe the bad behavior. 1. Launched Chrome and added Hangouts extension to Chrome. 2. Could sign into Hangouts and no issues are observed. 3. Tried to reproduce the issue by updating Chrome to the latest Stable(70.0.3538.110-->71.0.3578.80), but still was not able to reproduce the issue. Attached is the screen cast for reference. Note: Able to sign in and access hangouts in gmail as well. Listnr links provided from c#0 are not accessible as they need corp account. Thanks...

Per #7, this isn't considered an RBS for M71? If true, can we remove the tag since it'd otherwise confuse test teams (and me ;-) )? Thanks

Removing "RBS" per comment #11.

I had this problem when I upgraded to Chrome 71. I was able to successfully get the extension to sign-in by turning off "Block third-party cookies". And after turning it back on and restarting the browser, it failed again. I'm pretty sure something with third-party cookie blocking changed.

Mac triage: This bug is confirmed per #9 (but without consistent repro steps), it seems? If so, I'm going to assign this to rdevlin.cronin@, but it sounds like some of the work needs to be done on the Hangouts extension side maybe.
,
Dec 7
To replicate: turn the "Block third-party cookies" on. Another example: Grammarly extension. Signing in is broken when the feature enabled.

#15: Thanks for confirming! I'm able to reproduce this with that setting, and confirm that it's affecting other extensions as well. Specifically, TunnelBear fails to stay logged in with that setting. LastPass, however, works fine. This sounds like a bigger issue than Hangouts. Was any changes made to the way third party cookies are managed by extensions?
,
Dec 7
I don't think anything specific was changed on the extensions side, so I'm probably not a good owner for this. raymes@, do you know who owns third-party cookie blocking? Also +msarda@ FYI on the off-chance this is related to signing in through the identity API.

Dec 7
+mkwst@ owns third-party cookie blocking AFAIK. Could you ptal?

Seems to be related to https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=788738#c26. Merge to M71 is requested in this bug.

Yes, this seems to be a dupe of bug 788738, I'm in the process of merging the fix to M71 and M72. The latest canary (73.0.3633.0) should have the fix.

cduvall@, could this bug 903816 related to bug 788738?
,
Dec 8
It's possible, is bug 903816 still reproducible in the latest canary?
,
Dec 8
Yeah, abdulsyed@ tried and bug 903816 still repros on canary so it is not related to bug 788738.

Able to reproduce this issue on Windows 10, Mac OS 10.13.6 and Ubuntu 17.10 on the reported version 71.0.3578.80 and the issue is fixed on the latest M-71 build 71.0.3578.95 by following the below steps. 1. Launched Chrome and added Hangouts extension. 2. Enabled "Block third-party cookies" in the Settings > Content settings > Cookies. 3. Tried logging into Hangouts extension, could login and no issues are observed Attached is the screen cast for reference. Hence adding TE verified labels as the fix is working as intended. Thanks..
