Image from specific site not rendering properly only on Chrome

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.110 Safari/537.36

Example URL:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Go to https://employees.csbsju.edu/hjakubowski/classes/ch331/bcintro/olintro1.html
2. Scroll down and click on each of the following links for example:
Cyclization of simple sugars through hemiacetal links (https://employees.csbsju.edu/hjakubowski/classes/ch331/bcintro/olcarbo1intro.gif)
Hemiacetal/acetal chemistry (https://employees.csbsju.edu/hjakubowski/classes/ch331/cho/hemiacetalchem.gif)
Examples of complex carbohydrates (https://employees.csbsju.edu/hjakubowski/classes/ch331/cho/polysacch.gif)
3. View the image and see that it is dark and poorly rendered.
4. Attempt to do the same on Firefox or IE and see that the same issue is not reproducible in them. 

What is the expected behavior?
Clear image

What went wrong?
Cannot see the image as it is dark (example attached).

Did this work before? N/A 

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 70.0.3538.110  Channel: n/a
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: 

Seems to be unrelated to the most recent update. I had the previous version on another computer and checked the above on it. The problem reproduced itself there too.

Can reproduce the problem in Opera Version:56.0.3051.116 as well.

The attached file shows a screenshot of the same image as it appears in Firefox (expected behavior).

Able to reproduce this issue on Windows 10, Mac OS 10.13.6 and Ubuntu 17.10 on the latest Stable 70.0.3538.110 and latest Canary 73.0.3629.0.

The image is mostly transparent with black lines, so yes, you can't see it.
