Gesture typing fails after dismissing keyboard while maintaining focus

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open a text field and the VK
(2) dismiss the VK
(3) gesture type

What is the expected result?
Text gets inserted

What happens instead?
Text doesn't get inserted
