CPU Freeze after Switching Network from WiFi to Phone Tethered

Reported by birkhoff...@gmail.com, Nov 29

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/70.0.3538.77 Chrome/70.0.3538.77 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Mount 1GB of RAM (tmpfs) under ~/.cache/chromium while connected to WiFi.
2. Disconnect WiFi and connect to phone tethered network.
3. Click on any tab in chromium
(my CPU model is Intel i7 6700HQ)

What is the expected behavior?
The computer (or CPU more specifically) freezes. CPU doesn't respond to anything, mouse light turns off, changing to other tty doesn't work, magic SysRq key doesn't work, have to force shutdown.

What went wrong?
Memory management?

Crashed report ID:

How much crashed? Whole browser

Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 70.0.3538.77 Channel: stable
OS Version: 4.18.0
Flash Version: 31,0,0,153

It happened several times. I thought it's just a random bug, but it happened over ten times in the last few months although I update my browser as often as possible.

Labels: Needs-Feedback
This doesn't sound like an issue with the browser but more with your WiFi or tethering network drivers.
