Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.110 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. go into advanced settings and ensure "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" is on 2. note no notification icon visible What is the expected behavior? The notification icon used to be visible which allowed me to properly shut down Chrome before turning my computer off. If I don't turn it off via that notification icon then the next time I run Chrome my tabs are missing and it warns me that Chrome was not properly shut down. I've had to disable the "continue running in background" option to prevent the crash warning on system restart. What went wrong? notification icon is missing Did this work before? Yes was working at the beginning of Oct Chrome version: 70.0.3538.110 Channel: stable OS Version: 4.4.0 Flash Version:

Sorry, I seemed to have forgot to mention this was in Ubuntu 16.04. The issue doesn't exist in Windows and from your testing also not on a Mac. Also, when "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" is on, I can confirm that Chrome is indeed still running but only the notification icon is missing (the icon that would normally allow me to shut down Chrome through the UI).

As per comment #0 and comment #4, able to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 70.0.3538.110 also on latest chrome 72.0.3624.0 using Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 and issue not seen on Ubuntu 17.10. Same behavior is seen on M60(60.0.3112.113) hence considering it as non-regression and marking it as Untriaged. Removing Needs-Bisect label to it. Thanks..!

I just remember I have apt logs to see what versions were installed when. I think the issue started when upgrading from 69.0.3497.100-1 to 70.0.3538.67-1 . It was definitely working when I was using earlier versions of 69.0.3497 in September. However, it's possible that it stopped working with an upgrade to something else in Ubuntu if it's also not working for 60.0.3112 (as you say). It was definitely working for me in versions 68 back to 62 (that's as far back as my apt logs go).

I just upgraded to 71.0.3578.80 and it's now fixed! (for me, at least) |
