UMA system profile should be disclosed to users

Project Member Reported by tnagel@chromium.org, Nov 22

Issue description

On Chrome OS, feedback allows previewing of metrics (displaying the contents of chrome://histograms) but this doesn't include the system profile metadata that's transmitted alongside.

There should be a way for users to preview the metadata. The easiest (and also most generally useful) way seems to be adding it to chrome://histograms.

Btw, why doesn't desktop Chrome provide a way to preview metrics as part of feedback?
IMO histograms should stay reflecting just histograms.

Creating a chrome://system-profile that shows the current state or something like that may make sense.

WHat specifically do you mean by feedback here?
By Feedback I mean Alt+Shift+I. Apparently metrics are a part of Feedback on Chrome OS -- I wonder why desktop is different.

Robert, could you please triage/prioritize/assign?

We probably want to seperate this into a couple different bugs.

One is a chrome://system-profile which is probably sensible.

The second is the difference in feedback between crOS and desktop. Pranav, we were just talking about changing the feedback info on crOS. Can you speak to why metrics are only on cros and not desktop? Is that easy to change?

I've split off the second question into issue 915227 and kept the issue at hand about disclosure of system profile.

Thus back to Robert to triage/prioritize/assign ...
For the task - I think probably the best thing is to create a simple chrome://system-profile UI. Putting this in histograms feels a bit messy. Maybe Alexei/Ilya want to confirm they agree.

On prioritization, it's possible we could find someone to do this in the next bit. However, is there any interest from anyone on the CrOS side? (and can you loop in someone who could do it) Maybe a long shot, but it is mainly required because of the cros feedback feature.

+rkc@, +afakhry for ChromeOS Feedback, like on the other bug. Is this something you could help with?
Histograms have been removed:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=915227

However - are the system profile data still included?
It looks like from https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/1401563 that the histograms are removed, but I'm guessing the system profile is still included, is this correct?
Was the system profile data ever included?
What do you mean by system profile data?
