Hey Wanted to add more information, as I can reproduce it and we have some similar reports version- M71 OS - Android Examples https://listnr.corp.google.com/product/282/report/85837096124 https://listnr.corp.google.com/product/282/report/85837061954 https://listnr.corp.google.com/product/282/report/85837274758 https://listnr.corp.google.com/report/85837439978 https://listnr.corp.google.com/report/85835664566

Unable to repro this issue on 71.0.3578.83, tried on S6 Edge Plus/N but we have seen this recently https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=909689 , I am not quite sure if they are related.

So issue 909689 was caused by a change that landed after M-71 was cut. M-71 599034 CL blamed 609383 That was also nothing showing. This video displaying at an incorrect resolution would be a different bug, but similar portion of the code. ecabrera@ could you check chrome://flags to see if you have VizDisplayCompositor on? It is likely that the Finch experiments being ran on M-71 for that flag are causing some to reproduce this, and others not.

So I can reproduce the issue on 71.0.3578.83 The bug is that the Android app controls do not disappear (Back, Home, App Switch) when in Landscape fullscreen video. (See attached.) I can reproduce this when VizDisplayCompositor is Disabled. I also tried disabling surfaces-for-videos, but it still reproduced. A quick search of bugs shows several similar issues. Including issue 903020 where dtapuska@ marks this as a Won't Fix. Seems that there are different expectations for different fullscreen APIs. Passing this to dtapuska@ to confirm that this is the same cause.

That is correct. If apps are continuing to use the old webkitRequestFullscreen API then nothing has changed. However for apps that opt into calling the requestFullscreen API the navigation bar is shown by default unless it is told to hide it. This is consistent with the Samsung browser (although it does show them for webkitRequestFullscreen). We decided that calling the new API (which is shipped in M71) defines slightly different behavior. |
