Underline of Links on Google.de not clickabel

Reported by danny.cu...@gmail.com, Nov 13

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.77 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
google.de

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. go to google.de
2. do a search
3. click on the h3 underline (and just on the underline) of a searchresult
4. nothing happens (the browser doesn't navigate to the clicked link)

What is the expected behavior?
The Browser should open the clicked link

What went wrong?
When i use the search and then click on the underline of the h3 link (which happens very often) the link wont open. The underline itself appears and disappears on click, but no navigation happens.

We tested it on two separate macbooks. Please also have a look at the video in the attachments.

Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? N/A

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Huh! I can repro this locally, with google.com on 72.0.3610.0 on 10.14.1. Weird. The mouse-over behavior of the links seems wrong too - they show and hide their underlines at odd places. I'm kind of wondering if Search is up to something strange here, since on other pages (e.g. Wikipedia) the links look visually different and don't manifest this issue.

If I inspect the element itself, the actual <a> element is at an odd position compared to where the blue link displays visually, and the actual "blue link" part is an <h3> with some CSS applied to do "cursor: pointer; color: #1a0dab;". I have not the faintest clue where the underline comes from. I will follow up with the Search team.

Reporter: Have you seen this on any other page?
Hey thanks for your quick reply. Currently i have seen this issue only on google.
