These both worked fine and just stopped with upgrade Obviously Voicenote wont work in others but mic doesn't work in Docs as well and then MIDI devices are no longer detected as well. Something has trashed Chromium in a bad way ???

OK MIDI problem solved BUT not without some effort. Apps like VoiceNote II and Google Docs voice typing still non functional. removing and reinstalling Chromium browser did not work nor did resettting. Had to resort to doing a manual apt remove --purge chromium-browser then rm -rf all the chromium files in various root level directories /etc /usr and home directories. Then reinstall apt (not snap!) and voila MIDI works again ... Perhaps there needs to be an option to do a super reset which requires root level privs and deletes EVERYTHING from within the browser cos this was a RPITA to get sorted and probably past average end user ... PS Re Mic issues still persist although apps like https://www.onlinemictest.com/ find and use the mic fine but when Google Docs or VoiceNote tries to do voice typing it fails. Google Docs turns mic on and off about once every second ... This mic issue is definitely some sort of permissions issue with VoiceNote II because I can see the flashing "Allow ..." message if I hold down Ctl + SPACE in VoiceNote II. If I could post MPGs or animated GIFs here could show u ... Is there some debugging command I can start Chromium with to let u see what is happening wit mic issues ???

OK managed to get some debugging output .... (note both Google docs and voicenote use google speech-api ?????? specific error when mic clicked is [3501:3513:1107/091115.013095:WARNING:spdy_session.cc(3105)] Received HEADERS for invalid stream 17 and whole debug cycle for two clicks on mic button is in the attached error.log file. hope this helps

I assume the MIDI problem was already fixed by yourself, right? But just a question, why Firefox can detect MIDI? They haven't implemented Web MIDI yet on Linux as far as I know. If you are using plug-in like things, please make sure that the plugin or other application do not obtain the MIDI devices exclusively. It may be result in Chrome failing to open devices. Linux Chrome depends on ALSA sequencer API so that MIDI devices can be shared with other applications, but if any application uses a low level ALSA API directly, Chrome can not use MIDI.

Yes I refiled when the MIDI stopped as I thought this was some media related issue but now the MIDI is working its back to the mic/speech issue. Probably can merge these two issues now unless the "super reset/purge" option in Chromium has got some benefit (my vote is yes!) ???? As to the MIDI no its not an exclusive issue ... Didn't matter whether FF was running or not Chromium MIDI failed ... In fact thats why I tried FF cos Chromium stopped working. FF uses two plugins for MIDI: Jazz-MIDI and Web MIDI API ... the Jazz MIDI is common plugin for both browsers and the Web MIDI adds the API for MIDI API to FF ... So what remains is why the google speech API is failing with Chromium both in Google Docs and VoiceNote II ... obviously cant test that in any other browser ... anyway if I can do anything to assist please reply ...

Can isolate the Google Speech API at the Google demo here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/demos/speech.html which also shows the same behaviour i.e. fails bu turning mic off

As ET team do not have the hardware to test and confirm the issue, hence adding label "TE-Hardware-Dependency" and requesting someone from respective team to have a look into this. Thanks!

#14 Should not be the case if you are running an official Chrome build. (The bug report says you are on Stable channel.) #5 >>I can see the flashing "Allow ..." message So the microphone permission request notification does not show up properly for you? If you cannot grant access to the microphone because of that - it won't be working. In this case it look like UI issue rather than media.

ok yes this is official build but it only seems to fail on speech api so suspicious As to the "flashing" message: yes I get the "Allow ..." dialog first up and the required permissions are in the settings/contents/microphone entry (can I hand edit these somehow as woud like to add speech api url as well ??) But in VoiceNote II you hold down Ctl+Space to turn mic on ... if you hold Ctl+Space down can occasionally see a message in the screen about mic settings but as I said Voice Typing in Google Docs also fails. Very Interesting this google cloud speech to text URL works: https://cloud.google.com/speech-to-text/ so the base level hw and sw are working so it is something very specific to these other Google speech APIs used by VoiceNote II and Google Docs ... i.e. something to do with the interaction between this Chromium and https://www.google.com/speech-api.

Thanks, this is actually not even a sound or microphone issue rather this is very specific to the interaction between this version of Chromium and Google Speech API ... the previous version worked ... thanks again Please note IMHO there is still a "bug" with Chromium and MIDI ..... Please look into a "super reset" which deletes ALL files ... getting chromium MIDI working again should not have been this difficult ....

Re #16 ... yes the permissions box comes up and http:// is recorded in the Settings->Advanced->Content -> Microphone permissions list ... So I think VoiceNote II is just defaulting because the mic stream is failing as detailed above. VoiceNote only tries once but Google Docs Voice Typing repetitively tries to activate mic ... ca see this in the debugging Going to lay money that this is a Google Speech API key issue, there is no other logical reason why this stopped working ... Again really need to have a "super reset" in Chromium, average user would never have got Chromium MIDI working again ....

HI .... Just to let you know that I installed Slimjet and the VoiceNote II extension and the Google speech to text works fine so this is definitely a Chromium.latest issue .... |
