When connecting to ethernet, the ethernet icon should show in system tray |
||||||
Issue descriptionFiling a proper bug per sgabriel's suggestion. :p Just tested with sgabriel@, currently when ethernet is connected, the icon doesn't show up in system tray. The connection status becomes unclear in this case: https://screenshot.googleplex.com/tcru4owF6sc Assigning to sgabriel@ to create an icon (needs to rescale the one used in QS). cc'ing Jesse as this is tangential to LTE

Any progress on this? Do we want to show the Ethernet icon in the system tray at all (which is the current state of things)?

Note: This was an intentional decision: * No indicator = Connected to Ethernet * WiFi or Cellular indicator = Connected to WiFi or Cellular * WiFi disconnected indicator = Not connected Part of the reasoning for this was: a) Users are typically aware when physically plugged into Ethernet. b) And indicator should always be shown when not connected. Note: We do show an Ethernet + VPN indicator when connected to a VPN over Ethernet.

I believe the intent of this bug was to actually show the Ethernet icon when connected to Ethernet. Looks like #5 contradicts this. Steven, did you talk to Kejia? Is the current plan now not to show ethernet icon?

I am just describing the existing behavior and the reasoning behind it. I will defer to UX, I just want to make sure that everyone is on the same page before we start making significant changes to the code.

So what's the status / decision on this? Changes needed? Working as intended?

Jesse and I are working on a solution for all connectivity types, incorporating feedback from everyone: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IZf1Q3rhfKM9TOs8IbgLrqeV0J46b1pIu67eHNi53Q0/edit Haven't reached a conclusion yet, will report back
