[User Feedback - Beta] Text fields are rendering as "black boxes" |
||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 71.0.3578.20 beta OS: Win 8 & Win 10 There's only about 5 reports so far about text fields appearing as a black box; one user included a screenshot. User quotes: "The black boxes are back and are now covering links for multiple different items in multiple different pages" "It is not working properly after update. most of the dialog boxes are prompting blank or with black screen. It is very difficult for us to work on that" "I get black boxes in the browser in various internet sites and in places where you have to choose from a list this comes out as a black box"

Tested the issue on reported chrome version #71.0.3578.20 using Windows 10 by following below steps. Steps: ===== 1.Launched chrome. 2.Naviagted to "facebook.com". 3.Observed that all text boxes appeared normally without black color. Note: Tried with multiple pages with textboxes but could not see the issue Attached screenshot for reference. melodychu@: Could you please provide a URL that reproduces the issue and also request you to provide the GPU details by navigating to chrome://gpu, so that it would be really helpful for triaging the issue. Thanks.!

Thanks for the report. Without more details it's hard to investigate further, please do let us know if more reports come in. Have we made any significant changes to painting of form controls in 71?

One has to think this is related to the hardware, given the small number of reports. Or running out of memory or something like that. We need chrome://gpu contents for the failing cases.

And there have been no significant changes to form painting as far as I know, outside of the regular churn in painting code.

Friendly ping to look into this issue and to provide further update on this issue as it has been marked as a stable blocker. Thanks!

We need feedback on the chrome://gpu contents for machines that have the issue, because this looks an awful lot like GPU resource contention.

Reminder M71 Stable is approaching VERY soon. Please review this bug and assess if this is indeed a RBS. If not, please remove the RBS label. If so, please make sure any planned work will be tested in Beta and verified before the Stable date. Thank you. Requesting to take a look at M71 blockers ASAP due to upcoming Thanksgiving holidays next week.

Last contact with reporter was Oct 29; this needs more information (chrome:gpu and/or a repro page). I'm removing the release block label and marking this unconfirmed.
