Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.77 Safari/537.36 Example URL: https://www.breatheheavy.com/exhale/index.php?/forum/36-the-britney-forum/ Steps to reproduce the problem: on this message board, during page load, scroll anchoring doesn't seem to work. Can this be investigated? This URL is probably the most in need of scroll anchoring that I've ever encountered What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? I don't know if it is specific to this URL or if it's all I nvision Community message boards https://www.breatheheavy.com/exhale/index.php?/forum/36-the-britney-forum/ Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A Did this work before? N/A Does this work in other browsers? N/A Chrome version: 70.0.3538.77 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version:

Not able to do a screencast but here's what happens: during page load and even a bit after the page has loaded, when I scroll down, it jumps back to the top, or it will jump up a bit and I will end up clicking on something I didn't intend to. Very frustrating! It's not specific to Chrome, but Chrome is the only browser with scroll anchoring so I hoped it wouldn't be as bad in Chrome, but it is...

I can confirm (Linux 72.0.3590.0) that we don't anchor when ads load above the viewport. The content is basically hosted in a big <ul>, I'm guessing we're not selecting the correct anchor. Unfortunately no one's actively working on anchoring at the moment and this is fairly low-pri so unless someone wants to grab it it's unlikely anyone will fix it in the short term.

Is it only that specific message board or all Invision Community message boards? If it's all Invision Community message boards, it's probably worth fixing sooner rather than later

It's getting tripped up by the ::before pseudo-element on the div.ipsBox, whose purpose seems to be to supply a gradient background for the border space. But it's absolute-positioned and covers all of the content, so we end up anchoring to it, which is useless when the ads load inside .ipsBox. We could improve things here by skipping pseudo-elements in ScrollAnchor::Examine, but it feels sort of coincidental. |
