@tomswig were you unzipping it by double-clicking it in Files.app or through Terminal? If it was through Terminal, could you let us know the command you used? Thanks!

This was done in the terminal directly: 1_ Go to https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/ 2_ Select IE 11 on Win7 VM (X86) 3_ Select virtualbox platform 4_ Download the file 5_ Copy the file in linux penguin via the file.app 6_ Unzip in the terminal with the following command: $ unzip IE11.Win7.VirtualBox.zip

Thank you for providing more feedback. Adding the requester to the cc list. For more details visit https://www.chromium.org/issue-tracking/autotriage - Your friendly Sheriffbot

This may be the same root cause as https://crbug.com/888212 - if we have a crash report or a reliable repro, this could be verified by looking for a seccomp failure (SIGSYS) triggered by free().

How do I get a crash report ? what happened is that my VM crashed and the associated windows disappeared. Is there a log file I can go look at in termina ? or somewhere else ?

I'm unable to reproduce the original problem (unzipping large file) on ToT (72). The unzip command completes successfully, and the VM does not crash. However, it seems like Chrome reproducibly crashes when using the Files app to copy the large zip file into Linux files. I've filed a separate bug to track that here: https://crbug.com/905798

I believe this is fixed by https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/1305756 on 72 (which has also been backported to 71 now), so I'm closing this as fixed. If it reproduces again, please let us know.

Probably not backported on 71 yet. I just tried multiple times and it crashed at every times...
,
Nov 29
The backport landed in 11151.40.0 - which 71 version do you have? If you can reproduce, please file a feedback report as mentioned above.

It looks like the build you are using (11151.45.0) is new enough to have the fix linked above, so maybe the root cause is different. I tested on nami with 11151.47.0 and was unable to reproduce the issue (unzip completes successfully on the zip file linked in the original report). I'll reopen the issue since it seems you can still reproduce it - a crash report would be very helpful in order to diagnose the problem.

Thanks ! I'll be happy to provide a crash report if I new how to get it from the termina vm. Is there a log I can look at ?

Some useful information could be in the host /var/log/messages (you can get to this via file:///var/log/messages in Chrome). This is also included in a feedback report; see https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/docs/+/master/containers_and_vms.md#where-can-i-file-bugs for instructions.
