Issue with webview in android filling edittext on particular website

Reported by behls...@gmail.com, Oct 23

Issue description

Android version: Android 8.1 one plusA5000 Build/OP1.171019.011
WebView version (from system settings -> Apps -> Android System WebView): 66.0.3359.126
Application:Webview
Application version:66.0.3359.126

Device name: One Plus 5,5t,6. and various other devices having arm64-v8 architecture.
Works fine in armeabi-v7.

Steps to reproduce:
(1)Click on link "https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/"
(2)Try to fill up the form.

Expected result:
User will fill the form and proceed.

Actual result:
While filling a form in devices with architecture armeabi-v7a things work fine but when it comes to other devices (arm64-v8a) user is unable to type it correctly (whatever user types it shows reverse or sometimes it type nothing). When it comes to Chrome tabs or chromium, the same scenario occurs. Even in default Google chrome on mobile, it doesn't work. On Mozilla Firefox it works fine on all devices.

PFA

Thanks
Rohit Behl

behlsoft@, the issue you described doesn't seem particularly related to Android WebView.

Besides, you are talking about arm architecture/phones, but the screenshot you attached is from Chrome desktop for Linux.

Last, I couldn't understand what the issue is, is that possible for you to share a screen record, so we could have better understanding. I couldn't connect to the website https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ atm either.

Hello Team

I am posting a screen share with you.
Screenshot i attached was just for a field reference and website may have some issue.

Steps you need to follow:-
1- Goto google
2- Search "Download aadhar card"
3- Click on second link "Home-Unique.."
4- Click on Download aadhaar at left
5- Close the popup and select "I Have Aadhaar" and "Regular Aadhaar" on top
6- Try filling Aadhaar number "1234567890" (it type in reverse order) (Issue)
7- Even pin code field is not working

In video, i added all steps and compared it to Mozilla (Works fine in mozilla)

Thanks
Rohit

behlsoft@, thanks for the screen record.

I do have the search result similar to you for this website https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/. But unfortunately I can't reach this website. Maybe this website is blocked for visitors outside of India?

Is that possible for you to reduce the website to a static html page contains only few input elements, yet still representative enough to reproduce this bug?

Does this same issue happen on Chrome for Android?
Also could you please try the newest version of WebView, currently M69 or M70.

Hi Team

Please try visiting "https://uidai.gov.in/" and then follow the same step. Yes, I am facing the same issue with Chrome for Android too and logged bug too ( Issue 898099 ).
I will surely try to make static HTML and will let you know.
I am using 69.0.3497.100 for chrome and webview is disabled. As at a time chrome or webview one can be enabled

Issue 898099 (Chrome) is merged with other issue. Please check that too, it has static page embeded (Issue 824142)
http://demodocs.dirolabs.com/#/

Please check this!
WebView and Chrome share most of their code, so there's no need to file a separate webview bug if it also reproduces in Chrome - if they're broken in the same way then they will also likely be fixed in the same way.
