Math unicode characters missing in ChromeOS

Project Member Reported by vkhabarov@chromium.org, Oct 18

Issue description

ChromeOS version: 69.3497.140
ChromeOS device model: any
Case#: 17147313

Description:
Many of additional mathematical symbols in Unicode (outside U+2200–U+22FF block) are missing in Chrome OS. Some of ones in U+2200–U+22FF block are rendered incorrectly (like already reported U+2262 and U+226E-U+2271). Those symbols could be used in various classroom materials.
Maybe there is at least some "special" font for such applications?

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematical_operators_and_symbols_in_Unicode

Current Behavior / Reproduction:
Huge amount of symbols are shown as empty rectangular instead of actual symbol shown on other systems

Expected Behavior:
All characters are shown

especially page 4 is missing some required symbols

Victor,

Please always mention if this is a new issue / regression or if it has never worked for customer.
Components: -Blink>Fonts OS>Installer
Bundled fonts is a Chrome OS issue, not a blink rendering issue. Over to the installer team for further triage.

Customer didn't state if it is a regression (they created new document), but I can see that those symbols were visible in 64.0.3282.190, and are not visible in 65.0.3325.209+. I'll continue bisect.
This is the customer. The issue was braught to our attention by our math teachers in our school districts. It isn't something we noticed was available one moment and then regressed but something that was new to our attention and was repeatable in our own internal testing on the current stable build of ChromeOS. Looking to get this resolved as soon as possible.
Further bisect shown that issue appeared in first available Chrome OS v65 (65.0.3299.0)
In version 64 Wiki page uses Noto Sans Symbol for rendering, and v65+ uses Arimo.

jayhlee: This is an issue with the bundled fonts on Chrome OS and has nothing to do with Blink.

Any update on this issue?

This has nothing to do with Blink, back to the OS team.

is there any way that we can make sure this doesn't keep getting thrown back and forth with Blink and OS team? We really would like this resolved or at least being looked at by someone and triaged.
Status: Assigned (was: Untriaged)
This issue has an owner, a component and a priority, but is still listed as untriaged or unconfirmed. By definition, this bug is triaged. Changing status to "assigned". Please reach out to me if you disagree with how I've done this.

Any update on this ticket? If this wasn't impacting a school full of math students, I wouldn't be pressing so hard but we are dealing with an issue of purchased curriculum that cannot be viewed at this time only on Chromebooks.
