We're using the 1.6.0 version, which is more than 3 years old, while the latest upstream is 1.14.2, from about 8 months ago. The version we're using currently fails to build with our current glibc and needs extra downstream patches.

Moreover, upstream keeps adding bug fixes and new features in the master, which is especially important for the adoption of Request API in Chrome OS and also V4L2 compliance suite, which we're considering to use to test our drivers.
