Multiple users on M69 Stable can't play Amazon Prime videos on Web, are incorrectly told to update Chrome |
||||||
Issue descriptionMultiple users on M69 report that they can’t play videos in Amazon Prime Video, appears to refer to web player (rather than Android App). Amazon is displaying a pop-up that recommends users update Chrome -- even though they are running the latest Stable release. Some say they are directed to this Amazon Help Article: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201811500. Some reports say they see an error about being unable to verify identity for protected content. Have received ~54 reports since September 21st (2.5 weeks). Affected devices include: gnawty, edgar, peppy, auron_yuna, swanky, kip, and veyron_jerry. Is this possibly related to the M69 regression that was blocking HD playback for content with certain flags set in the license policy?

A user on CBC reported the LastPass extension was the problem, however, another user has no issues with LastPass enabled. https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/chromebook-central/lTyh3ScY6EI/JOP4BzvmAwAJ I've got it now! Clearing Amazon cookies did not help. Clearing Amazon's local storage and session storage also did not help. What did work, and what allows me to reliably correct and repeat the problem, is disabling the LastPass extension. If I disable it and reload the video page with ctrl-shift-R, the video will run. If I re-enable LastPass, it's broken again until I disable it and refresh the page.

Two Acer Chromebooks in my household will not play Amazon Prime videos. All other video streaming services work. The error is: www.amazon.com/dv/error/7031. Chromebooks are updated to the latest OS. I am able to play Amazon Prime videos on my iPhone and my desktop computer (Microsoft Windows 10) and on my TV using ROKU.

I too am having problems streaming Amazon movies. But oddly I have no problem streaming Amazon TV shows. That's the same symptom reported in 2015 and fixed in version 47.0.2526.80 Here: "Problems with *some* amazon streaming with new Chrome versions" https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/5dKTeondHQo

APV streaming fine for over a year, image quality suddenly degraded then crashed, reporting error 7031. Updated to Version 70.0.3538.77 (Official Build) (64-bit), cleared cache, cookies, history, log out/in, restart, etc. Streaming quality is good, but stutters every 5-10 seconds. Unwatchable. Reported to Amazon last week, no reply.

The root cause has been fixed in ChromeOS 70 and alter. Mark this as fixed.

Re #13, robinpritchett: What you described seems a different issue; could you please file a new bug? To investigate more, could you please check whether hardware accelerated video decoding is enabled? You can check this by going to chrome://gpu. Also could you please provide info in chrome://media-internals? That'll help us identify what went wrong. Thank you so much!

I have an acer chromebook R11 and I just updated to the most recent available (not sure which it is) and when I click on the amazon prime video app, it’s slow, laggy, and the video itself just won’t play. I’ve tried restarting, redownloading, and signing out and back in again. Prime has always given me a bit of trouble but it ever since I updated, it just won’t work. Browser version works no problem though. No error pops up. It’s like it just doesn’t respond. |
