Cannot backspace with VK handwriting in Google Docs

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open Google Docs in Chrome.
(2) Open VK in handwriting mode.
(3) Handwrite something for the doc.
(4) Tap backspace on VK.

What is the expected result?
Recognised word is deleted.

What happens instead?
Stroke disappears, but word remains.

Can you check to see if this happens in other applications as well?  Or is it only Google Docs?

As far as I can tell, only in Google Docs.
