Parallel downloads crushed my MacBook

Issue description

Last night I purchased a digital product, and I downloaded four files. I have a gigabit fiber connection, and the files were of sizes 2.3GB, 800MB, 2GB, 700MB.

That should be trivial, but on 71.0.3559.6 my MacBook ground to a halt. Every app stopped responding. Occasionally an input event or two succeeded and I managed to get the Task Manager to show.

The browser process was chewing up a ton of CPU, but a process indicated at the networking process was chewing up a ton as well.

Have you done tests of large parallel downloading?

My MacBook only recovered about five minutes later, when all the downloads completed, and then everything was back to normal.

Does this happen with Network Service enabled or disabled? Can you try disabling/enabling network service?

"Parallel download" is a misleading word. On Android, 1 single download could trigger 3 separate connections to download the file. But this is disabled on desktop. For your case, it seems that you have 4 separate downloads. Since you have the gigabit fiber connection, I don't know if I can repro it locally, do you have a trace we can investigate?
I tried download 4 large files on my mac pro with the latest canary, and I don't see this happening. So it might be related to the network speed relative to the disk writing speed, i guess?
My computer was completely locked up for five minutes, bottom to top. I have no trace.
Avi: can you try reproducing this with network service disabled and then enabled, so we can conclusively know it's related to network service?

I just experienced a similar situation again, and I suspect this might not be the network service.

I just replaced the battery in my MacBook, and was intentionally draining the battery as part of calibration. This all happened at about 10% left, and I think that my Mac was in the process of swapping out all memory so that it could hibernate with no battery power left. I did another intentional battery drain today, and something similar happened again, this time without any big downloads.

I'm willing to chalk it up to that. Sorry for the accusation.
