chrome.documentScan stopped working for a compatible scanner in a chrome app

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 10718.88.2) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/68.0.3440.118 Safari/537.36
Platform: 10718.88.2 (Official Build) stable-channel lars

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.chrome.documentScan.scan(scanProp, function(scanResults) {
				document.getElementById('viewScannedFiles').style.display ='inline-block';
				if(chrome.runtime.lastError) {
					console.log(chrome.runtime.lastError.message);
					return;
				};

What is the expected behavior?
The scanresults object should return blob of the image contents.

What went wrong?
scanner not available is the error.

Did this work before? N/A 

Does this work in other browsers? N/A

Chrome version: 68.0.3440.118  Channel: stable
OS Version: 10718.88.2
Flash Version: 30.0.0.134 

this used to work correctly but suddenly it is saying it is not recognized
 
Previously, I had chrome minimum version as '28' in the manifest. Even after updating it to '44' or higher is producing the same result "Scanner not available"
Hardware details - Canon Lide 220, USB vendor id - 1193 product id - 6415
