i think we can drop the "beta" marking at this point.  the project has been around for over 5 years now.  that should make these small sizes useful again.

the Terminal app (for Crostini) has taken ">_", so we don't want to re-use that.  plus a lot of other terminal apps out there seem to use that as their basic icon, and we've gotten feedback that it's hard to tell our icon apart from them when both are pinned (b/64819972).

maybe we could go with "$_" or "#_" instead.  those are commonly associated with terminal prompts.

are we set on the white for the font ?  a neon green (like we have in the dev icon) might help set it apart.

is there a hard requirement that it be a solid circle ?  the rounded rectangle we use today was meant to invoke thoughts of a CRT/terminal screen which is a rounded display (like you can see in the dev icon).
