Aria-live not working with VoiceOver

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/69.0.3497.100 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Have a web page with aria-live attributes either role="status" or role="region"
2. Turn VoiceOver on
3. Try to get aria-live results

What is the expected behavior?
VoiceOver should read aria-live content

What went wrong?
VoiceOver doesn't read aria-live content

Did this work before? Yes Chrome 68

Chrome version: 69.0.3497.100  Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.13.1
