Turning off the Autofill toggles should turn of the syncing of those data types |
||
Issue descriptionCurrently, turning of address or credit cards autofill does not affect the syncing of that data. So we end up in a situation where we can sync data to a machine where it will not be used. Since the data is on the machine, we also need to show it in the settings which may be confusing to the users. When the autofill toggles get turned off, they should also turn off the syncing of the associated data type.

I have a hard time following this bug report. Are you saying you turn off data types on the sync settings page and they are still syncing? In that case, I'd like to highlight that the current behavior (although maybe not too intuitive): sync settings get only applied when the settings page gets closed. Or are you describing a different issue?

Sorry, I should have made that more clear. I didn't explain all the context. This is related to the email thread between Enterprise, Sync and Autofill. I'll summarize the issue: Currently if you turn off the Autofill feature toggles in chrome://settings/autofill or chrome://settings/payments, it does not affect sync at all. So you may end up in a situation where credit card autofill is disabled (e.g. by policy), but we are still syncing Payments cards to the device. The user also sees those cards in the settings which is confusing. The same reasoning also applies to addresses. The proposal is to disable the syncing of addresses/cards when the associated feature toggle is turned off. It would turn back on if the address/card feature toggle is turned back on, unless it was specifically turned off by the user. Let me know if this is still unclear
