Replace or remove chromium.googlesource.com/external/webrtc.git

Project Member Reported by oprypin@chromium.org, Sep 19

Issue description

I was thinking that it's probably time to remove https://chromium.googlesource.com/external/webrtc/ as a mirror. Though it seems to completely overpower the real repo - https://webrtc.googlesource.com/src - in terms of search engine optimization. So I was wondering, would it be possible to implement a permanent redirect from one to the other? If not, we'll need to weigh pros and cons of simply removing it.

We need to keep the old repo s.t. fetching old DEPS still works :(
The idea long time ago was to deploy somehow to .gitconfig an instead of map with moved repos:

[url "https://new"]
  insteadOf = https://old

Till that is done, I'm afraid you have to keep old repo, though you can land 1 last extra commit removing everything and adding README.md saying "go to new location". This, I hope, will improve your SEO.

(removing from admin queue, because there is nothing admin can help you with. That said, Infra>Git is a bit of a /dev/null)

But is there perhaps a way to do a permanent HTTP redirect, if we have access to the server?
