Steps To Reproduce:
(1) bring up the Google Hangouts window (or let it come up by itself)
(2) click on text-entry field at bottom to try to give it focus
(3) try typing a message there e.g. to reply to a message received

Expected Result: writing a message in reply to another

Actual Result: nothing at all, all typing is ignored

How frequently does this problem reproduce? (Always, sometimes, hard to
reproduce?) Always

What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is
it? makes replying to hangout messages impossible, no known workaround
