Chrome 69 displays https:// and www. prefixes in the address bar

Reported by co...@colin.net.pl, Sep 13

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/69.0.3497.92 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Type onet.pl in the URL bar and press Enter.
2. Chrome 69 displays "https://www.onet.pl" instead of "onet.pl".

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?
After some automatic update, Chrome 69 on Windows 10 has started displaying full URLs instead of simplified versions.

Did this work before? Yes The first version of Chrome 69

Chrome version: 69.0.3497.92 Channel: stable

I see this too on Maac. Has this been changed recently again?

more data points if helpful:

Win10:
stable 68.0.3440.106: see http://www.onet.pl (ACK that it's 68, have an update waiting)
canary 71: see onet.pl
Status: WontFix (was: Unconfirmed)
Working as intended, as we have temporarily disabled this feature on M-69. See
