Tab title for page without <title> shows untruncated domain |

Issue descriptionChrome 71.0.3544.2 macOS 10.13.6 What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Visit http://www.www.www.www.www.www.example.com/ What is the expected result? The domain in the tab matches the URL bar. What happens instead? The omnibox shows example.com, while the tab shows "www.www.www.www.www.w..."

Thanks for saving us the trouble of identifying the duplicate report. :-) The one we don't have permission to view is, in my understanding, a security bug covering basically the same issue.

Sorry to be a bit presumptuous here, but this bug is about the URL bar not matching the tab title. All the other bugs I've seen are about the URL bar only – there is no other open bug matching both `component:UI>Security>UrlFormatting` and `component:UI>Browser>TabStrip `. If this has already been discussed elsewhere, though, feel free to close again.

Assigning to jdonnelly@, the owner of bug 881694 . This is an example of a place where the unelided domain is shown (the tab title); it's unclear what we should showing here. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to merge this bug into the larger meta-bug, lest this different feedback get lost. |
