||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 69.0.3497.81 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit) OS: Linux What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Open new tab What is the expected result? There should be icons with links for frequently visited pages. What happens instead? The icons/links are missing. Please use labels and text to provide additional information. Chrome just recently updated to the version listed above, and after the update the NTP worked properly on (at least) one occasion, but then it stopped displaying the links and hasn't shown them again since.

Hey all, Just confirming from the con ops side that we're seeing reports of this as well. We're seeing it reported across both M68 and M69. reddit: - https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/9dofeg/missing_the_homepage_most_visited_thumbnails/ Community: - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/HQs4MJz7P6s - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/zuuqyggYmZU - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/1xwSC3_vaRE - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/3aa4IlEBbTI Listnr: - https://listnr.corp.google.com/report/85646043086 - https://listnr.corp.google.com/report/85646042682 - https://listnr.corp.google.com/report/85646039844 - https://listnr.corp.google.com/report/85646030183 Thanks!

Quick update, this is looking pretty wide spread. We're seeing *a lot* of user reports on this across all channels. More than 1,000 reports in 24 hours on listnr alone. I too have had a loss of thumbnails on my home page. Additionally, I was following a 'Help' thread google forum, my browser suddenly and without requesting input from me, updated my browser version. Please look into this. A Also a frequent problem when making changes is that persons who have visual disabilities are overlooked; I am such a person and when things are moved, or changed suddenly; it is a challenge to figure out how to work with the new interface. These two changes today have caused great consternation.

This unwanted change occurred for me too earlier this morning. I have spent a crazy amount of time trying to find out how to fix it. I want my thumbnails back!!! It may seem like a small issue, but I count on those thumbnails as great time savers. Please provide help on fixing this.

French user on Chrome 69.0.3497.81 on Arch Linux On a newly-created profile, it seems the initial new tab page has the internal url "chrome-search://local-ntp/local-ntp.html" which works as expected. After that, opening a new tab leads to "https://www.google.fr/_/chrome/newtab?ie=UTF-8" (real url can be seen with Ctrl-U) As a workaround, you can create a shortcut to the correct page in your your bookmarks bar : chrome-search://local-ntp/local-ntp.html

This actually looks like users are being redirected to Google.com instead of the Chrome NTP. Ramya is looking into this.
,

This may be due to a server-side push. To eliminate serviceworker issues, those of you seeing it - can you close all open NTPs (eg by visiting a different site), then open a new NTP? Do you still see it?
,
Sep 7
re#16 - ramyan@: Closing the NTP's (e.g. by visiting a different site) and open a new NTP is still not showing the tiles.
,

temporary workaround is to force enable on ntp with chrome://flags/#use-google-local-ntp

When am I getting my thumbnails back And not a temporary fix a permanent one????

We've identified an issue that was causing an error in non-English locales. We're pushing out a server side fix that should address this issue. Thanks for your patience.

Fix has been pushed. All users on M68 should now see most visited thumbnails and on M69 - most visited icons. For non-EN users on M69, "Add shortcut" is not translated into local languages. That fix is coming separately with a Chrome update early next week.

Verified that the most visited icons are back in M69 Stable. Thanks for the quick fix!

Elles sont bien réapparues, mais n'ont pas la même forme

Good morning, I apologize but I did not understand how to get back the thumbnails on Google 69 instead of the icons. Also in the omnibox no longer appears neither the symbol of the site, nor especially the color related to security ... it is possible to return to the previous version? For people of a certain age, these changes are bad!
