Same issue happens to me, except I noticed it when full-screening YouTube TV on my second monitor, and it was my primary monitor which was blacked out. This is an old problem I've seen in previous versions of Chrome, but hadn't seen in quite some time. It happened immediately after upgrading to Chrome 69 and launching YTTV.

Unable to reproduce the issue on chrome version# 69.0.3497.81 using Mac 10.12.6 with steps mentioned below: 1) Launched chrome reported version on Mac 10.12.6(primary screen) and connected a second monitor as HP 2) Opened YouTube, played a video and made it to full screen on primary monitor, didn't seen second monitor blacks out Observations: Also tried testing the issue by playing and making the video to full screen on second monitor, but didn't observed primary monitor blacks out. I finally find a way to automatically reproduce the black screen with dev tools. It's not working in all website but for example . If you go on www.boursorama.com (i can reproduce this bug every time in this web page the main one) Right click on web page => Inspect element then go on the body element. the web page turn in light blue (hovered element) And if you monitor task in win10 you will see memory usage increasing fastly (and GPU usage climbing up to 55%) until memory is full when it's full black screen and revive after 2 seconds. Looks like memory leak issue

Why are we talking about Windows 10? This sounds like a second, different bug, than the one I reported, which is for Mac OS X with two monitors. The video plays fine in full screen mode on the first monitor, but the second monitor gets completely blacked out. This is NOT an issue where the original monitor goes black but then restores after a few seconds.

If the motivation is to stay consistent with the native behavior that's okay. I believe that you should give at least the option to disable this behavior since it has been the default way forever. For example, VLC has the same default native behavior as quicktime and a simple toggle in settings to disable it.

It's definitely not okay and I really don't think "consistent" bad UX should be a goal. The "native" way is an abomination rendering my second display useless (who in their right mind at Apple thought it was a good idea to begin with?!), and I really can't see the point of "displays have separate spaces" except as a workaround to the accumulated UX debt in OSX over the years. Please Chromium team, don't throw as to the Lions (see what I did there?)

I'd just like to chime in (apparently I don't reboot my machine, or chrome, for multiple weeks at a time) that I'm definitely missing the 'non-native' fullscreen. It's actually more distracting the native way, as I've got a messenger client on a second monitor. If someone messages me while watching a video, I get a bouncing dock icon popping into the video - and the only way to remove it is to exit fullscreen and switch to the other app. Used to be I could just click the other app in the second monitor, while leaving the video fullscreen on the main monitor. |
