Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.Type in the Omnibox a URL of a search site, e.g. wikipedia.org
2. Press tab to enter Search mode in the Omnibox
3. Notice animated suggestion "<Type search term>"
What is the expected behavior?
The "<Type search term>" placeholder text should animate subtly, perhaps fading in while animating to the left from a mere 200px to the right of where it ends up. This would feel quick with short-distance motion.
What went wrong?
It's rarely good to animate an item over large distances, e.g. the > 2100px across the width of the Ominbox suggestions window on my full screen browser. The animation seems to take over 500ms which is a long time to pause when you're in a flow. The problem is that the animation is so drastic that I can't NOT pause, like a video game it always arrests my attention. Chrome's UX is very refined, so this sticks out as a nuance that didn't get the proper UXD attention.
