There shouldn't be much disk activity until vim is open and writes the file. I didn't see this repro locally. Any chance we can do it again and get a feedback report?

I tested just now and I am opening files instantly. Not sure what happened few days ago. It must have been intermittent. Feel free to close the bug for now.
