Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/68.0.3440.106 Safari/537.36 Example URL: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/183849384?t=01h00s Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Visit Twitch.TV "Video-On-Demand" sample (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/183849384?t=01h00s) 2. Playback video by clicking the play button found on the bottom-left corner of the HTML5 video player 3. The video and chat should start playing and the abnormal CPU usage should be noticeable What is the expected behavior? Simple playback of video and displaying past chat messages shouldn't use this much CPU. What went wrong? Chrome's CPU usage is very high, at an average of about 30% and slows everything down. General "sluggish" feeling when navigating the website or when using other applications. This is making it a almost impossible to have a pleasant viewing experience. Did this work before? No Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? HTML5 Does this work in other browsers? Log Messages GpuProcessHostUIShim: The GPU process exited normally. Everything is okay. I could also reproduce this on a Windows 8.1 system, so it doesn't seem to be OS specific. Twitch.TV support could not isolate the issue and told me that this might be a browser specific problem. Additionally, I've recorded a Performance Profile which could help Chromium Engineers to analyze, isolate and hopefully fix the issue (download below). It does seem pretty high, but may be due to huge active chat. My Pixelbook is showing 50-70% cpu even with chat hidden, whereas a normal 1080p60 YouTube clip is only showing ~20%, with spikes to 70%. YouTube gaming clip with live chat and 1080p60 is ~50-60%. +liberato in case he sees anything awry.

Even less active chats bring cpu usage up to 30%. On YouTube I cannot reproduce this at all with cpu usage always being at about 5%.

I suspect it's just a result of Twitch's chat performance. I'll forward this bug to some twitch folks though to ensure they're aware of it though.

+Speed team as an FYI too since this includes a performance profile from the user.

Thanks a lot for forwarding it to Twitch. Would really appreciate an update about their response to this issue.

Twitch is investigating on their side. It seems to be an issue they're aware of and not limited to Chrome. |
