Can't enter text in web form boxes, after browser has been open a while.

Reported by alfac...@gmail.com, Aug 15

Issue description

Example URL:
twitter.com

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Chrome browser
2. Do some browsing
3. Go to twitter.com
4. Attempt to reply to a post (tap in the web form box)
5. Cursor will not enter reply box

What is the expected behavior?
Cursor enters web form box and user is able to reply, as it worked, before the last update.

What went wrong?
Flashing cursor does not automatically go into web form box and manually tapping in the web form does NOT place the cursor in the field, so the user can enter text. I.e. User can't enter text to populate necessary web form responses.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes Before the last pushed auto-update

Does this work in other browsers? N/A

Chrome version: 68.0.3440.91 Channel: stable
OS Version: 7.0
Flash Version:

If I close the browser app and re-open it, it will work for a short while. I am on a Motorola Droid Turbo 2, Running Android 7. If I uninstall updates, it works again.

Components: -Blink Blink>Input
Possible focus issue?
If not input-related, please redirect as appropriate.

alfack65@: Is the page otherwise responsive and working? e.g. can you scroll around, tap links, etc?

Next time it happens, could you capture and attach a trace here, it would be very helpful to debug. Use these instructions: https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/submitting-a-performance-bug
Eh, sorry, on Android you'd need: https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/trace-event-profiling-tool/recording-tracing-runs and see the "Capture a trace from Chrome on Android (with DevTools)" section.
Sorry - I uninstalled all updates and took the pushed 60mb update again. I
have not seen it again, yet. I will capture a trace if I do. The keyboard
would pop up, but the cursor was not in the box and tapping in the box
would not put it there. All other page functionality seemed operational. I
have been a software tester for about 18 years, but sometimes do not know
the exact language to describe the issue, especially on phones. It does
seem like a focus issue, to a large extent.
Thanks. Another thing to check - if it does come up: if you dismiss the keyboard with the back button and try again, the same thing happens? Just to clarify: typing when the keyboard is up doesn't cause input, right?
Yes. Typing, when the keyboard is up, doesn't cause input.
So, My phone took the update again and I had a solid repro, but when I hooked it up to the debugger, it magically went away.

Dismissing the keyboard, as you suggested, did not remedy the situation.

alfack65@: So the issue is still reproducing consistently in 68.0.3440.91 but when you attach to devtools it goes away?

When you say the issue goes away when you uninstall updates - which updates and how are you doing that?

Have you tried installing Chrome Canary and seeing if the same issue occurs there?

Roughly how long does it usually take for the keyboard to stop working? I wonder if you could start tracing and keep browsing until it occurs...

I close this issue for now as there was no feedback from the reporter. Reporter, if you got more more info about our comment feel free to comment here or file a new bug.

It's still happening. I am in the middle of moving and don't have internet
access or cell reception at my new home, yet. Too busy. Will reopen, if I
can get it on the debugger.
