Cannot play audio. Play button is altering continuously

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open URL : http://webaudiodemos.appspot.com/MIDIDrums/
2. After loading page, see the play button in bottom
3. Try to play sound by clicking Demo 1 - 5

What is the expected behavior?
Sound should be playing normally

What went wrong?
No sound is playing. Play button changing continuously.

Able to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 68.0.3440.75 and latest stable 68.0.3440.106 also on latest chrome 70.0.3521.0 using Ubuntu 17.10.  

Same behavior is seen on M60(60.0.3112.113) hence considering it as non-regression and marking it as Untriaged.

NOTE: Issue not seen on Mac 10.13.6 and Windows 10

What is the actual behavior here?  I tried on OSX with Chrome 68.0.3440.6 and pressing any demo button plays the deom and the play button changes to a pause button and stays that way.

But with Chrome 70.0.3522.0, I have to press the play button to do hear anything.  Pressing a demo button stops playing and the play button turns back into a play (triangle) button. I have to press play again to hear the demo.


(The audio for demo 2 sounds somewhat different between the two browsers as well.)
Ah, chrome canary produces an error:

Uncaught DOMException: Failed to set the 'buffer' property on 'ConvolverNode': Cannot set buffer to non-null after it has been already been set to a non-null buffer

This is expected according to the spec: https://webaudio.github.io/web-audio-api/#ConvolverNode-attributes

You can set the buffer of a ConvolverNode only once.  This restriction was recently introduced in Chrome.

Then how to fix this issue?
This is working on Mozilla firefox but not working on Chrome, whose fault?
The spec is pretty clear about the behavior of setting the buffer of a ConvolverNode.  I'm guessing it works on Firefox because they haven't implemented this yet.

Isn't this a web compatibility issue if a change in spec breaks websites that are currently working fine?
In hindsight, we should have added a deprecation message first, as we did for https://www.chromestatus.com/features/5248179385663488.  IIRC, the change in the spec for AudioBufferSourceNode and ConvolverNode were done at the same time.
If I understand correctly, Chrome launched a change that broke backward compatibility and cross-browser compatibility? Did we have any reason to think this would not have a large effect on websites? I mean, maybe this website is one exception but maybe there are many like this?

Was the compat issues of this launch mentioned in the intent to ship?
Why it is working on Chrome for Windows and not working in Chrome for Ubuntu?
