Repro steps:
1. Pair Airpods With ChromeOS
2. Listen to anything

Expected: "Normal sound" 
Actual: Echo/Out of sync effect, sounds like both Right and Left channels are being sent to each one of the ears

Always

What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is
it?

The impact is that this particular bluetooth headset ( haven't tested with others ) is unusable without the work around. 

Workaround:
Place one of the pods back in the box wait a few seconds and then place on the ear again. When the disconnected pod gets back both will sound as you would expect.
