[Modern Design] Different preview size in tab switcher

Device name: s7, pixel

From "Settings > About Chrome"
Application version:70.0.3520.0
Operating system:8.0, 9.0

URLs (if applicable):all urls

Steps to reproduce:
(1)open single tab and go into tab switcher
(2)open two tabs and go into tab switcher

Expected result:

width of tab preview is always the same

Actual result:

currently width is changing and preview looks... hmmm... strange

Tested the  issue on android and observing same preview size of tabs

Steps to reproduce:
--------------------------
1. Launched chrome and opened 1 tab, clicked on tab switcher and observed preview size
2. Opened 2 tabs, clicked on tab switcher and observed preview size -- Both shows same Preview size

Chrome version:
70.0.3520.0

OS:
Android 9.0 / PQ1A.180803.001

Android device:
Pixel 2  XL

@marcin: Please check the above steps and let us know if we miss anything. Is this issue consistently reproducible? Screencast/screenshot on reproducing the issue would help in better triaging.

I see different width on these devices, on Pixel 2 XL it can be the same.

Steps are OK  and please note, that I'm reporting, that width of the same tab is changing from step 1 to step 2.

In other words:

one tab: width A

two tabs: width B

A != B

This issue seems to intended, however cc'ing  rlanday@ for further inputs on this issue.

Till 68.0.3437.0 we are seeing overlapping of tabs but from 68.0.3438.0 seeing different preview size. Suspecting https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/55c7f9f453ae037330724820f00f21e51c2a9340.

As this is behind flag adding M-70, please feel free to change the milestone.

It’s intentional behavior for the new horizontal tab switcher (the flag is actually separate from the one for Modern).

Yes, I think the motivation here is to show you more of the tab content when you don't need to be able to access the adjacent tabs.
