consider caching decoded images on disk |
||
Issue descriptionI encountered this while trying to track down why new tab in clank launches a new utility process. Turns out it's to decode the thumbnail image for articles in the ntp. Launching a child process is slow, uses a bunch more ram compared to desktop, and has wider ramifications. Maybe consider decoding an image once, and then caching the result? At minimum it should be a lot faster.

I'll be implementing a cached image fetcher that transcodes the image when it's downloaded. Subsequent cache hits will decode directly in the browser process. Closing this since this task is already tracked. |
