Rendering with signed vertex attributes seems broken on ANGLE's D3D11 backend

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_6) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.1.2 Safari/605.1.15

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Go to https://codepen.io/dmikis/full/NByLyL (or use attached test case).

What is the expected behavior?
Gradient with occasional strip of red pixels due to rounding errors.

What went wrong?
Just red canvas.

Thanks for the report. Is this the same issue for which a WebGL conformance test was added in https://github.com/KhronosGroup/WebGL/pull/2488 ?

If it's different, could you please upload a pull request to the WebGL conformance suite with a reduced test case for this issue?

It's not restricted to the Vega M - also happening with an R7 240 GPU with ANGLE's D3D11 backend. about:gpu attached. With ANGLE's OpenGL backend on the same card, this works correctly. It seems like a bug in the handling of signed vertex attributes in ANGLE's D3D11 backend.

I made a test case for this and got:

Warning: syncPrimitiveTopology(3453): Point rendering without writing to gl_PointSize.

Ken this is somewhat undefined. I'm not sure if WebGL defines a nonzero default value for gl_PointSize. Maybe we could define it to be 1.0 if not already set.

Argh. Sorry about this Jamie. I should have looked more closely.

The GLSL ES specification (both 1.0.17 and 3.00.6) state that if gl_PointSize isn't written to, and rendering with points is performed, then its value is undefined. The WebGL spec does not override this.

Synthesizing a "gl_PointSize = 1.0" into the vertex shader is suboptimal, because it's not known ahead of time whether a given program is intended to be used for rendering points or some other primitive. I believe we have seen problems in the past attempting to initialize this variable to 1.0 and then drawing other primitives like lines or triangles. This is why WebGL doesn't define this default.

Confirmed that changing the CodePen to set "gl_PointSize = 1.0" at the end of the vertex shader makes this example render correctly on Windows. Closing as WontFix - not a bug. Submitter, sorry but you will have to update your shaders.
